How Obama Will Spent His One Day In Berlin

Now that the decision where Barack Obama will speak in Berlin has finally been made, more and more details about his visit have been made public. According to German media reports, the Democratic presidential candidate will stay in Berlin for one day before continuing his whirlwind tour through Europe.

Here's how Obama, according to German press reports, will spend his time in the German capital: He will arrive on Thursday morning at Tegel airport in his new Obama One plane, featuring his campaign logo and slogan. Obama then will meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Chancellory around noon. They will have a photo taken, but not give a joint press conference, since Obama is a candidate and not an official state guest. At 2 pm Obama will meet with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. According to press reports, he might spend the rest of the afternoon taking what has been described as a private walk through Berlin, visiting places of significance to German-American relations such as Tempelhof Airport, Checkpoint Charlie, the historic Bernauer Straße or the Holocaust Memorial.

Obama's much debated speech at the Victory Column is scheduled for 7 pm and will last up to one hour. Obama will stay at the Berlin Intercontinental Hotel and will head to Paris at 9 pm Friday morning. Until now, no details how Obama will spend the rest of the evening after his speech have been published.

Since Obama's only public speech in Europe at Berlin's Victory Column is a public, free event without much prior notice, Berlin officials are not quite sure how many people to expect. Estimates range from 10,000 to one million. (If the weather is nice, my guess is the number would be closer to one million than to 10,000.) Officials are in a hurry to prepare the area around Großer Stern, which will be open to the public as of 4 pm. Obama was given the second highest security status by German officials, the highest being granted only to the heads of state of the United States, Israel, and Russia.

According to the Berlin daily Tagesspiegel, Obama's campaign team, unsurprisingly, has focused its media attention on the bulk of American journalists traveling with the candidate. Tagesspiegel reported that the Obama team originally showed little interest in working with German journalists wanting to cover the event. Now, the paper writes, a decision which German journalists will be accredited will be made shortly before the speech.

With Obama's evening plans for Berlin apparently still shaping up, maybe he needs some help. What do you think? How should Obama spend his one evening in Germany's capital city?

He should go to McDonald's and confound the world. Or prove to Americans he can withstand the harshest of tortures, and watch Germany play soccer. The post comparing Obama to Hitler seems a tad harsh, indeed he is so opposite to that mentality it is drawing throngs to see the hopemonger in person. I hope he has beer. I would wanna see cuckoo clocks being made and eat sausage too. Perhaps a stroll to poop on Hitler's grave and a Rammstein concert for the young ones. I hope he figures out what they are saying and tells us.

Compared to the accomplishments & qualifications of Chancellor Merkel, Obama is NOTHING. No executive experience of any kind, no military experience of any kind and Governmental experience limited to using his current post to run for his next post. Obama gives a good prepared speech, but Germans of all people now know the being a great speaker as in Hitler is no qualification for LEADERSHIP. McCain is an American version of Hindenberg & a far more experienced leader.

Lincoln put members of the press or war protesters in jail during the war. He did what was needed at the time. No leader today has anywhere near the courage of Lincoln to do what truly needs to be done. To mention Obama's name along with Lincoln's is a joke.

A million? Are you serious? That would be ridiculous?

To all you people who think that Obama is going to be the next president...please don't get too excited...America is really stupid. We've had to deal with the last 8 years because of American stupidity...I pray to God that doesn't happen again =(.

Barack 08!!!!

I understand many Europeans have been reading both of Obama's books. I hope people in Amercian will do that as well so they get to know the man according to his words and not flip media comments. Our times call for a Lincoln type leader who can listen to both side of the issues to bring peace, fight terrorism, bring about economic reform, meet energy needs and be concerned about global warming. A professor of Constitutional Law, a community organizer, a member of the state and national legislature and an editor of the Harvard Law Review may be the person who will bring meaningful change to my country. I recently read that his opponent is learning how to use the internet. I look forward to hearing Obama's speech (whereever it is given), seeing the places he visits and learning who he meets with in Germany. I hope the weather allows many people to visit today. I look forward to hearing both candidates speak when they visit my home state of Ohio.

The audacity of this man Rosemary?
Getting to know other countries and their leaders is a bad thing?
If you are worried about gas prices and it sounds like you live in the states, Ask the OIL people like Bush and Cheney. They and their friends are doing very well due to the Oil prices.

He should admire the clean streets, check out the cute train station food courts, visit an art museum, talk to elderly Germans and young Germans. He should also meet Claudia Roth and Gabriele Pauli. Visit the German Stock Exchange. And use a public German bathroom.

Hope he has a safe and happy day. There is a lot he can learn from Germany and we don't just want him lecturing them.

Bye bye.

Obama should go up to the top of the Fernsehturm and see for himself that not everything the DDR did was terrible.

We desire an experienced indivudal skilled in both legislative and international affairs NOT a Rock Star. The Germans can keep Obama. Visiting the Middle East for one day and failing to pay attention to US here at home vs. bathing in the light of his European fans, does not make him Presidential! Presidential is handling our gas price and energy problems. The audacity of the man!
