Is Bush Following Obama On Foreign Policy, Or Is Obama Following McCain?

In this space of late, I've emphasized the ways in which President Bush's foreign policy has come to resemble Barack Obama's: On Iraq, on meeting with controversial foreign leaders, and most recently, on conducting operations inside Pakistan without its permission to go after al Qaeda.

The Weekly Standard offers up a different case: That Obama is actually following John McCain's lead. And on most of the examples the conservative magazine offers, there is truth in them. On the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, on Russia's invasion of Georgia and other topics, Obama over time shifted toward McCain.

Both cases, stated at their lowest common denominator, are true. Bush has shifted toward Obama, in some situations. Obama has shifted toward McCain, in some situations.

There's a kind of three-way game of chase going on here, where each of two candidates and the one president alternately distances himself from and moves closer to one or both of the others.

I have pretty much observed how Bush has handled his mistakes and actually is doing whatever Obama says. This is not because Bush wants Obama to be president but rather because he wants to show Americans that he has done all things Obama says he will do notwithstanding it is too little too late efforts. He wants to make the case that all Obama policy resembles his which is not true.

Obama has been vocal in call for withdrawal of troops from Iraq to direct them to more needed Afghanistan - Pakistan border where extremist are still residing. Bush immediately implement this and McCain somewhat gets drawn in to it.

This is simple. Bush has begun to see the logic behind Obama and McCain to stay relevant in a change year in America, must toe the line effectively. Otherwise the problem is much bigger than Americans seem to see.

To me, Obama has the best options for America and to prove that case, he has to brilliantly hit at McCain's perceived bad judgment to is more of the same with Bush.

Leadership is one thing Obama needs to reform in his campaign now. He previously followed McCain's lead on offshore drilling (changed his position). He keeps reacting to GOP ads and comments. He is not doing well in polls on leadership.

He doesn't look like a decisive strong leader. His "present" votes so many times aren't the sign of a decisive leader. He has never challenged his Party or taken any stand that required strength.

His VP is much stronger and tougher than him and could become the new Dick Cheney. Should the leader of America and the Free World be a leader or a follower?
